Located in an area surrounded by a lush scenery, the container house owned by Dr. Andi Hudono MRCOG, SpOG, is a beauty utopia where both owner and family man can relax after a busy working week in the city.

Created by a team of interior designers from PT. Indonesia DS Indah Karya headed by Danny Hendrawinata Effendy, the Container House is located in Rancamaya, Bogor. With a position directly facing Mount Salak, this house-slash-villa instantly provides a sense of calm to those who wish to enter it. Especially since its core design itself mainly uses foundations and transparent windows, adding to the illusion that it is at one with the surrounding nature.

Comfortable yet efficient, this “container house” was designed and built in a relatively short time – in just three months. According to Danny, the whole building process also only acquired for 5 workers, which naturally had a big impact on the house’s retail price.

“If the house/villa Rancamaya was built based on a conventional building, then of course it would’ve needed around 10-15 workers to complete it,” explains Danny, before adding that “only 5 workers in total were needed to complete the whole container-villa project.”

This particular container-villa is also an extension of Dr. Andi’s house, located right in front of it. At first glance, the container house wasn’t visible from the main house; instead, it is the foundations of a different plateau that gives it a feel of being “a secret hideout”.

“…..because the nature of the container as a whole makes it easier to do renovations or removal if needed.”

Choosing a concept for the Container House is the result of collective thinking between Danny and the owner, who has some of his own preferences. Aside from that, the flexibility offered by the container house concept is a plus.

“We thought that Container House is a perfect living space to be inhabited by the owner, Dr. Andi Hudono. He is in favour of minimalist and modern design that can be processed quickly – moreover, the villa’s formation is adaptable to change, because the nature of the container as a whole makes it easier to do renovations or removals if needed.”

As for Dr. Andi himself, these are the advantages that drew him into building a holiday villa with such a unique concept.

“Apart from the lower cost, the building and development process is also more practical and requires only a relatively short time,” he says, before adding, “A container building also does not require a building permit, like permanent buildings do.”

“Living in a container villa is no different than living in a ‘permanent’ villa. I feel very comfortable living in it, as well as with the existing interior.”

The sense of comfort gained from this two-storey villa can be easily felt through the spacious resting rooms, two bedrooms each equipped with a private bathroom, as well as the transparent section on the second floor facing the open skies – adding an element of open nature perfectly.

This villa is also equipped with a minimalist-modern kitchen and a relaxing outdoor space on the top floor.

According to Danny, the Container House is the ideal solution for businessmen and professionals, especially because when the expiry date on the lease is up, the building can be easily removed.

“Living in a container-villa is no different than living in a ‘permanent villa’. I feel very comfortable living in it, as well as with the existing interior,” says the owner, who also adds that in terms of maintenance, there is no actual difference either compared to a permanent villa. “On the contrary, it’s more practical and economical.”

For Dr. Andi, this villa has become his pride and joy. He says, “I am very proud and more than happy to show family or friends around the place whenever they come to visit.”

Even for the builders, Container House is considered to be a successful pilot project. Danny reveals that his team has received a lot of positive feedbacks from people who are interested in the quality and uniqueness of the Container House.

“We are very proud with our achievements in regards to the development of Rancamaya Villa, because to us, this is a very successful pilot project,” says Danny proudly. “We have succeeded in transforming a used shipping container into a luxury villa! Even our friends couldn’t believe that this unique villa was actually built off of a shipping container.”
