Choosing batik as a starting point to present the design of the dwelling with elegant appearance it also provides a sense of experience that culminate in expressive quality in it. Architects Rudy Kelana of Wahana Architects always felt the need to have a good dialogue with clients about what their lives are like. "It's never enough just to listen to the needs of homeowners, but it is also necessary to come and see what they are like in their former home," explained Rudy .

For architects, the irregular landform of 427 m2 in front of the neighborhood garden is an interesting challenge. The two main masses are connected by a connecting mass; accommodating a memorable floating master bedroom, a garden underneath, a pool area, and a terrace that obscures outer and inner space. The remaining area of land that jutted out and narrow was then used as a ladder and became a gallery for a collection of paintings and other antiques.

"Basically homeowners have a relaxed lifestyle, very fond of wood, even has a collection of antique furniture is quite a lot. Batik is then chosen to be a way to unite everything without losing the elegant essence visually, "said Rudy Kelana . The presence of batik patterns on several walls of the mass of buildings and also interiors combined with jalousie windows are very local impression following the concept of combination of wood and gray concrete then enriched with marble floors Malacca Gray .

"This house is a modernity wrapped by batik. The spatial
arrangement inside is not formal with the main access using ram into the house without having any symbol or physical main door. Here the pattern of open space and modern accommodating arelaxed lifestyle and still look elegant with batik expression on various parts.

Batik motif does represent the culture of Java, But the modern touch of the open space arrangement is very suitable with the lifestyle of a relaxed home owner. In the foyer room to the living room there are barriers that can be shifted to make the proportion of space to be comfortable in accordance with the activities. This residence is accessed through a long ramp between two periods to the second floor which accommodates communal spaces such as dining room, family room, terrace and there is also a library designed transparently. Meanwhile, the child's bedroom is located on the third floor.

By still utilizing the wood from the dismantling of the previous house, this residence seems to have no main door and realized from the spatial arrangement that allows the natural carries and lighting to be present well. A dwelling in a tropical climate that is full of cultural elements and all presented with elegance.
